What is cyber bullying?
Cyber bullying is when a child uses any electronic device to bully other children. Cyber bullying can include a series of text messages, IM's, blogs, chat room messages threatening to hurt, harass, or impersonate someone. Here are some stats on cyber bullying in the United States:(sources below)
· 42 percent of kids have been bullied online.
· 38 percent of teen girls have said that they have been bullied online.
· 26 percent of teen boys say they have been bullied online.
· 13 percent of teens have had rumors spread about themselves on the Internet.
· 20 percent of kids have been repeatedly threatened online.
· There has been a 50 percent increase in reported cyber bully incidents between 2000 and 2005.
· 53 percent of kids have admitted to having said cruel things online.
· There is a 70 percent increase in your likelihood of being cyberbullied if you use a social networking site.
